Status:
My oldest contiguous friend Jez came over to visit today. While we’re always in touch I hadn’t seen him for a couple of years and it was really lovely. Probably spent too long chatting (90 minutes is way over my limit for conversations) but fuck it, eh?
Definitely needed a nap afterwards, which was broken by whoever does the BBC’s Mindful Mix programming Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2 an hour in. Brief Encounter angst is certainly a wake up call.
Overnight listening:
- Lifepod: An introduction to Lifepod - Adam setting out his stall and reading a section of the book. Looking forward to the first proper episode tonight.
Music:
- Ministry Trax! Box - Ninety early tracks by Ministry including side projects Revolting Cocks, Pailhead, 1000 Homo DJs, PTP and Acid Horse. I remember some of these bleeding into my consciousness as a curious youth via the goths in my circles. Amusingly that 1000 Homo DJs version of Supernaut was my first exposure to Sabbath - it was years before I heard the original.
Reading:
- Timothy Snyder: Fascist failure - Positing that Trump is actually shite at doing fascism properly, not that this leaves us in a better place.
- Laurie Penny: Temporarily embarrassed sex criminals - Useful reminder that “patriarchy” doesn’t mean rule by men, it means rule by the father, the patriarch.
Watching:
- Ants Pants: Finishing the Roller Deck & moving it out of the workshop (2:48:33)
- Nerdwriter: What’s jazz doing in A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms? (10:14)
Telly:
- English Teacher
- Paradise - OK, this is utter bobbins. Barely made it through the second episode. Avoid, avoid.
