Steady day today, trying to keep off the sofa while not overdoing it. My long term goal is to be on other chairs. Currently writing this on the sofa. Hmm.
Overnight listening:
Reading:
- Gordon Parks’ era-defining shots of segregation – and those who defied it - I first came across Gordon Parks when a housemate was watching the documentary Half Past Autumn which left us gasping at his wide ranging achievements. By the time he directed a ballet we were on the floor. But he started as a photographer and his photographs are fantastic.
- The window chrome of our discontent - More righteous Apple design moaning.
- The mysteries of Dorothy Vallens: On Isabella Rossellini in Blue Velvet
Watching:
- Rusty camping stove restoration (10:42)
- Harmony Korine: America’s most misunderstood filmmaker (1:07:18) - The deep dive into Korine’s work I didn’t realise I needed. Confess I haven’t seen much of his work but I’ve always liked that it exists.
