Notes and links from 24 Aug

Photograph in the garden of a couple of yellow buckets stacked together next to a worn wooden chair and table on a lawn.

Another recovery-type day though I haven’t managed it too well. After a slightly disturbed sleep I woke at 1:45pm and remembered a friend was visiting at 2pm, so got up and greeted them. It was one of my low-energy friends so not a massive drain but still a catch-up with an interesting person with news from the outside world. I could definitely feel my head spinning by the end.

Then I failed to rest effectively and spent time on the website stuff, getting more and more frustrated with it and close to throwing in the towel. Online documentation remains terrible, mostly being a random assortment of blog posts that solve very specific problems.

I was wishing there was just a book, like there used to be in the old days, and then I had the notion to look for one. I’ve downloaded a potential candidate (will get it from the library if it’s any good) and a quick skim shows some promise.

The big issue is everything in Eleventy seems to be ultimately dependent on understanding javascript, and that’s too close to actual programming for me. I don’t want to learn programming. I want to build templates and write markup. And I get that this is a me-problem. It’s just not the direction I want to be going in right now.

And then finally Lavander has decided to stop eating and is showing all the signs of gut stasis. We’re doing the force-feeds to get her system running again but it looks like a visit to the vet first thing tomorrow morning is in order.

So yeah, rest day fail.
