This is being stored here before installing and I thought it looked aesthetically pleasing.

Spent a reasonable amount of time pottering around in the garden today, along with a trip out to the local building supplies barns. While the dome water collection scheme is clearly a dumb thing to keep my brain active, we do have a more serious plan to capture rainwater from the rabbit run and today Fi drove us to Selco and Wickes to get stuff. Specifically two 210 litre butts, some guttering and a bunch of plastic bits and bobs.

The rabbit run is a classic piece of Pete iteration. It started off as a basic aviary made up of 3x6ft panels bolted to the shed, which I then put a sloping roof on so we didn’t bang our heads, and then put corrugated roofing panels on to keep the rain off. Because none of this was planned properly, and because it doesn’t really matter (the rabbits have full access to the shed for real shelter) the drainage is a bit haphazard. I plan to fix that with the structure pictured above which will help direct the water into one place.

As with most of the things I do now I have chronic fatigue, most of my time is spent slowly figuring out what needs to be done and making plans before getting some help to do the actual work. I reckon in a week or two, once the storms have hopefully passed, we should be ready to put it all together. Today, though, involved understanding the design decisions the makers of these water butts made and figuring out how I can work with them in the tight space I’ve got next to the run. It should be fine.
