Another rest day. Had a go at fiddling with the water butts and quickly got prickly sweat on my forehead despite doing fuckall really, so hit that on the head.
Have mostly been watching the tellyshows, mainlining Silo season 3 which is teetering on the edge of nonsense but just about holding it together. It’s easy to forgive any implausibilities once you get over the fact that a population of humans that’s been isolated in an underground bunker for 300+ years speaks with a variety of accents and has incredibly good skin, but even so they keep pushing things right to the edge. And I’m there every step.
I’m also watching, with Fiona, the second season of Beef which is enjoyable in a “awful people doing stupid things” sense. Cailee Spaeny is the main draw here. She’d got on my radar in Civil War and Alien Romulus and I’ve been wanting to see if she’s actually as good as those promised. Happy to say she is. Proper acting.
Tonight, though, is quiz night. Bring on the nerds.
- I had an amazing experience as a disabled person at school in the 70s. Since then, discrimination has got far worse — I’m still homebound enough to have not encountered this yet but I’m sure I will. Shiver.
- An appreciation of the Dymaxion map projection — to mark the usurping of Mercator this week.
- 70 Up is out this month — The most fascinating thing about this series, for me, is the feedback loop between the broadcasts and the subjects' lives. A cautionary lesson in many ways that we neglected to learn
- The Horny Universe Theory
